That’s why we have asked our employees for you as to what they want from Calyxo as an employer. And what they don’t want. The make-up of their work. Their day-to-day activity. But why not read about it yourself?
Andreas Wade
Sustainability manager
My name is Andreas Wade. After graduating in Environmental Process Engineering I worked for a year with UNESCO in Qatar as a recycling expert. After that, I was drawn to the traditional energy sector where I worked as a process engineer on oil platforms in the North Sea and in gas fields in the Netherlands. The prospect of working on a sustainable form of energy and also being able to use my knowledge to the benefit of future generations brought me to Calyxo GmbH, a company that I regard as the epitome of the sustainable energy industry. We refine a waste product from the mining industry and use it to make photovoltaic modules that are capable of producing energy for many decades – brilliant! And what’s more, here I can work with people who are exactly on my wavelength, and together we can develop new and exciting ideas extremely quickly. It’s my dream job!
Dana Knüpfer
Operator
As a qualified retail business administrator, I have been very successful in my activities as a retail manager. However, in 2007, I decided to change my professional orientation. I first heard about Q-Cells from friends and acquaintances. Manufacturing solar cells sounded very interesting and appealing. I wanted to get involved in this challenging field. With a little bit more background research, I came across the fledgling subsidiary, Calyxo. At the end of 2007, I sent my application to Calyxo, and I was invited to an interview. That went so well, that after 17 successful years, I left the retail business. At Calyxo, I work with a marvellous team, and I’m very proud to be a “Calyxan”.
Stefan Oelting
Process Manager
After taking a degree in Physics, I had the opportunity to do pure research at the Battelle Institute in Frankfurt on different methods of manufacturing thin-layered solar cells. This development work eventually took me to the spin-off company ANTEC and the installation of the first industrial manufacturing plant for thin-layered solar modules based on cadmium telluride (CdTe). The line on which I was then working as Technical Manager went into production at the beginning of 2001 in Arnstadt (Thuringia). Unfortunately the company failed to extend the lead that it had at that time by developing further and expanding its capacities, and so my search for a more meaningful way of using my knowledge of the thin-layer sector brought me to Calyxo. I see the work that I’m doing now as the challenge to translate a new technology for the manufacture of CdTe solar modules into an industrial manufacturing process in a fast-evolving field.
Robert Fischer
Process Manager
My career and experience to date is very closely linked to the manufacture of float glass, as I worked for over 12 years in the American Guardian Group in different managerial positions in the Process and Production divisions. A short time ago I moved over to the sunny side, and now I am experiencing the exciting start-up atmosphere of a young solar company that has set itself ambitious targets and works with unbelievable drive. Calyxo GmbH offers the extremely interesting challenge of converting a newly developed, innovative technology into industrial mass production and being actively involved in the organisation of this. For me personally, the particular appeal in all this lies in refining a traditional pane of glass into a future-oriented power product.
