Photovoltaics delivers environmentally-friendly and sustainable energy and, thanks to enormous advances over recent years, is an important part of a modern and balanced energy mix.
Cadmiumtelluride (CdTe) thin film technology goes one step further. By using cadmium we are relieving the strain on the environment during the actual manufacturing process itself: the cadmium we use is a waste product from the mining industry and has to be permanently stored at significant cost in order to avoid any harm to the environment. The CdTe technology processes the cadmium using tellurium to create a non water soluble semiconductor which forms one of the building blocks of our thin film module. The CdTe is securely integrated between two glass substrates in order to provide for the reliable generation of electricity for decades. Our integrated, permanent recycling programme ensures that environmental protection also continues beyond the useful life of the modules.
